Baseball Signs Top Local Pitcher

The Evangel Baseball program is proud to announce the signing of one of the top pitchers in the Springfield area.  Dustin Sipes of Nixa High School has signed a "Letter of Intent" to continue his baseball career at Evangel University starting in the fall of 2015.  We have had our eye on Dustin since his sophomore year and we are extremely happy to have him in our program.  He will not only help us greatly on the field, but he is also a solid student and great person off the field.  Congratulations Dustin...we are excited you have chosen to become a Crusader.

Fall Semester Comes to Close

Finals are over and the semester has come to an end.  The fall has definitely been a time of hard work and getting to know each other.  After graduating a large senior class in 2014, there are a lot of new faces in the program.  I am pleased with how our team has meshed together this fall and we are well on our way to producing a positive team chemistry.  We are looking forward to a great season in 2015.
Before we close out the semester there was something I forgot to post at the end of November.  The annual No-Shave-November Awards were handed out and we had "winners" in two categories.  The first category was "Worst Attempt".  That worst was earned by Jacob Gettle.  He received razors and a can of Barbasol.  The prize for "Best Beard" was won by Ryan Bradshaw.  He received a Si Robertson action figure.  Below is a picture of them with their awards.  Congratulations Jacob and Ryan!

EU Softball

As we finish up semester and off-season workouts, we look forward to January and our preseason workouts for the 2015 season. We had productive practices the previous few weeks of December & November. The team had good energy and focus and on target ready to play fro 2015. We also had to make a change to the opening weekend of the season for February 6-7. We will not be attending or going to Louisiana tournament due to budget constraints and trying to reschedule or refill those dates that works better for the university budget. We hope to have it filled soon and will report the replacement location and opponent when filled. All for now and have a happy holiday season!

EU Softball

Crusader softball team wrapping up a very busy fall semester. September-October workouts went very well. Team played scrimmage games against some JUCO's. Also played one double-header against the Razorbacks. EU offense performed very well scoring 6 runs on the day against SEC pitching. Our team speed is the best ever giving us the "rabbits" to put a lot pressure on the defense. We beat out 3 infield hits against Arkansas. This is a team that will be an offensive threat for us. If the pitching & defense step up, this could be a very interesting 2015 season.

Team has been working hard indoors with Coach Getty strength & fitness workouts. The hitters, slappers, and pitchers continue to work on their game making great improvements. This is not a "game ready preparation" time of year so we are working on certain areas of our game that gave us problems during the fall. We like the improvements we see and we continue working hard.

Our season is slated to open up February 6, 2015 at the LSU-Alexandria campus. This team seems to ready to play and February 6 cannot come too soon.

Fall Workouts Begin

After 7 weeks of practice outside and a week off for mid-term test, the Evangel baseball program will be moving into the fall workout portion of the year.  Players get up for 6 AM workouts on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday and have afternoon workouts on Tuesday and Thursday.  This is an important time of the year for us as players will be working on getting bigger, stronger, and faster with the goal of getting their bodies ready for the 2015 season.

2014 EU Fall World Series

After getting rained out the first two days of the week, Game 1 of the Fall World Series finally got started on Wednesday.  The Series was a best 3 of 5 format with two seniors leading each team; Caleb Ginger and Michael Headlee leading one team...Brandon Cobb and Jacob Smith leading the other.  I would like to say it was a close series, but it ended quickly with the team of Ginger and Headlee taking it in a 3-0 sweep.
The team will now be off during the week of fall break as we get geared up for off-season conditioning.

2014 Fall Practices Coming To An End

This week ended the main period of our fall practices.  Our last scrimmage was rained out after 2 innings and our alumni game was also rained out.  Next week we will finish the fall practice period with our annual fall world series.  Check back for updates on those games starting on Monday.
